Hello everyone! Good news, I'm feeling much much better than last week and we got a lot done! Wooo!
So, we had a trade off this week and I was in Starke with Sister Carter! That was super fun but lemme tell ya, Starke is a crazy place. It is basically in the middle of Florida and a lot of creepy people live there haha! It was still a good time. We did a lot of stuff there. We first helped this member take down Christmas decorations that she put in front of all her neighbors driveways. She is the sweetest lady! She had a crazy accident happen to her a while ago and she is now partially paralized. She was so concerned about my lingering cough too and gave me some different remedies. I swear at this point I've tried so many things haha! Cough medicine, lots of vitamins, some essential oil stuff, and...jumping on a trampoline. And hey, I'm better now sooooo all of them worked? Maybe haha!
I'm convinced that if everyone in Starke changed their attitudes about Starke, it would be a wonderful place haha!
We also had MLC in Jacksonville on Friday! It was a fun time! Afterwards, I just wanted to go out and do the work. The spirit of urgency was reawakened in my soul haha! Mostly, we talked about how to be effective missionaries and how to get the other missionaries to do that too. It's not so much about doing "more" of something but looking at the things we are doing, evaluating their purpose and effectiveness and then doing less of the things that are a waste of time. We are going to work on that for sure!
The people we are teaching are doing pretty good. We didn't talk to them much this week. Everyone is very hard to get into contact with.
We had a super awesome contact with a member though where we read about Esther in the Old Testament! What a wonderful story of bravery and faith! We just talked about how we need to follow the promptings and opportunities we are given, the moment that they are given. If we follow a prompting or not, God is going to get his work done one way or another, with or without you....I'd like to be with Him haha! So that was a really nice reminder because I need to be better at following even the smallest of promptings, even if it is scary or awkward.
Last but not least, we came across a lot of bashers this week for some reason. (maybe the reason is because the adversary wants to thwart our plans and make us discouraged. maybe it's because the adversary knows that the church is true. either way, hes not gonna win lol) Anyways! So first, our wonderful friend Brooke is lowkey a basher but her reason is different than the others. She actually wants to learn more and understand our point of view. (Kinda like Mark from St. Aug :)) It's a little bit hard to understand her ideas but slowly we are gaining an understanding of her beliefs.
The second basher happened at the end of a long day. He came up to us and was like, "soooo Joseph...Joseph John something. He found some platelets in a cave on a hill. tell me about it". So, we told him about it. We taught him the restoration and he was listening well...not sure how much he understood though. Then he proceeded to tell us some weird stuff he's heard about Jesus. I honestly don't even know haha! He doesn't really believe in the validity of the bible nor Jesus, and while we were bearing testimony of the Book of Mormon our faith he just looked at us as if we were so stupid to belive such a thing. Quite rude. AND THEN he just interrupts us to ask us about our "holy underwear"...bruh. We still got his info tho because he wanted to read the Book of Mormon. Honestly the weirdest contact ever but oh well. We tried not to bash lol.
Last, we met a lady that some members told us to visit. She needs some service done so we offered to help and then said that if she'd be interested, we do Bible studies. She then looked at us and said, "oh I'll do a study with you but it won't be a study that you expect." We go "oh ok no problem." and she proceeded to say "ya, I'll convince you that you need to become Christian." We said "oh but we are Christian!" she says, "that's what you say but you're not and that's why we need to have a study." .................wahoo! Man oh man! We just left kindly after that.
Alright, I hope everyone had a wonderful week and that this week is awesome too! Be kind! Reach out to someone this week! Be a friend, and be safe!
Love y’all
Sister Huff
