Not a lot happened this week but it feels like a lot happened if that makes any sense haha! It's been a long one for sure!
To begin, we went to a Bible study at this HUGE church in Lake City. (backstory for this church: it's called Christian Fellowship church and it was founded a while back. Basically this dude decided to create a church here and everyone loved him. He would ask for huge donations of money to build this church but he also used it to go on expensive cruises and build statues of himself around the city. eventually some really shady stuff came out about him after he died so they took those statues down but people still go to that church) Anyways, the Bible study was interesting and not much of a Bible study at all because they had a German traveling prophet! Yay! I couldn't really understand him but apparently he was healing people and there was a lot of praise happening. At one point he said that we all needed to ask Jesus for a breakthrough in our lives. And he continued to say "ask Jesus for a breakthrough!" but because of his accent all I heard was "ask Jesus for a grapefruit!" As you can imagine, I was thoroughly confused haha! Important note: this all was accompanied by the speaking in tongues (and not German I might add)
On Thursday we had the lovely opportunity to be a part of a huge Catholic Charity food drive! They were preparing boxes of food for families in need of a Thanksgiving dinner. There were so many people there and it was really fun to help out for a few hours!
Alright, Friday Sister Smith and I had to travel to Jacksonville for MLC (mission leadership council) and that was super fun! It was a meeting that lasted all day and we talked about a lot of stuff. Stuff like what we can do to better help the mission, how we can use our resources, and most importantly we talked about the 2022 mission vision! A mission vision is just the overall goal we want to set for the mission to achieve in that year. A lot of good ideas were said but nothing is settled yet. We're gonna have another meeting in a few weeks to get all the details and come to a conclusion. I'm so excited to be a part of it all! There's so much revelation that goes into making these goals.
One discussion that we had that stood out to me a lot was our discussion of the Doctrine of Christ. President Wood stated it in "backwards" terms saying, we can't endure to the end if we don't have the Holy Ghost. You can't have the Holy Ghost if you aren't baptised. You don't get baptised unless you repent, and you will not repent unless you have faith in Jesus Christ. That last part is really important. Our whole eternal progression depends on our faith in Jesus Christ. He is what we need to build our foundation upon. Once we have our foundation built upon Him, everything else will fall into place. Helaman 5:12 is a great scripture for this! So, do what you can this day to build your foundation upon Jesus Christ. He won't let you down :)
On Saturday, Lake City had what is called "founders day" and there was a huge market fair thing going on! It's to celebrate Lake City being...founded haha! Our ward had a booth there and it was all based around the 1890's when 2 missionaries came to Lake City and started a church here! It's a super cool story. At the booth were 2 Elders and they were dressed up all in the 1800s look, as was everyone else haha! Sister Smith and I tried our best with what we had. It was super fun! And apparently the 1890's is when tootsie rolls were invented!
Also on Saturday we attended a wedding for this guy who stopped us on the road a couple of days ago. He saw us and recognized us as missionaries and wanted us to attend his wedding so we did haha! It was quite random but he's the sweetest guy and the wedding was beautiful! Turns out that the sisters in the area right next to us do service at that mans church and that's why he knew us. Everyone else there also knew the sisters and thought we were them...so a lot of people were like "ah it's so nice to see you again!" and we were like......who are these people!?
Also! Exciting news! River Joy, from St. Augustine, was baptized on Saturday!!! I was able to watch it through zoom! I love that girl so much and I'm so thankful for the opportunity I had to teach her.
That's about it for me today!
Have a happy thanksgiving! I'm so thankful for yall and for all the support you have given me! Yall are awesome! I'm also so thankful for this opportunity to be a missionary. There's nothing else I'd rather be doing right now. I'm especially grateful to be teaching others about the Gospel of Jesus Christ! I know that it blesses so many people's lives and that we can and will find peace in this life because of it. I'm also thankful for the Book of Mormon! It is such a powerful and important book of scripture that will bring you closer to Jesus Christ. It has for me!
Have a wonderful week! Love yall so so much!
Sister Huff :)
